Stanley Cup Final 2026 Recap: Carolina Hurricanes Defeat Vegas Golden Knights in 6 Electrifying Games!

Stanley Cup Final 2026 Recap: Carolina Hurricanes Defeat Vegas Golden Knights in 6 Electrifying Games!

The Carolina Hurricanes are Stanley Cup champions again! During a chaotic, action-packed Final against the Vegas Golden Knights, the Canes found another gear, locked it down, and brought the Cup back to Raleigh. It's the second championship in franchise history for a team that first hoisted the Cup in 2006. Two decades later, the 2026 Stanley Cup Final delivered overtime thrillers, razor-thin finishes and nonstop momentum swings in one of the most competitive championship series in recent memory.

The 2026 Stanley Cup Final's opening battles saw two never-say-die teams trading wins. Multi-goal leads quickly disappeared during those early games. Vegas briefly seized control with a double-overtime Game 3 win. It gave the Golden Knights a 2-1 series lead after Carolina erased a four-goal deficit in the third period. Even in defeat, Game 3's comeback by the Canes may have been a turning point. Carolina tightened up defensively for the rest of the series and went on to win the next three showdowns.

In the deciding Game 6, Taylor Hall scored early to set the tone. Jackson Blake added an insurance goal in the second period. Nikolaj Ehlers sealed the win with an empty-net goal late in the third. Let's not forget Brandon Bussi, who stopped all 22 shots he faced to seal the shutout. All that's left now is the championship parade. Check back soon right here for all the details on how, when and where to watch the festivities.

In 2021, The Walt Disney Company, ESPN and the National Hockey League reached a historic and innovative seven-year television, streaming and media rights deal, taking the new partnership from the beginning of the 2021-22 season through the 2027-28 season. The new deal is highlighted by: exclusive coverage of the Stanley Cup Final on ABC in four of the seven years of the agreement, with the ability to simulcast/megacast on ESPN+ and additional ESPN networks; the return of live NHL action to ESPN networks with 100 exclusive national regular-season games across ESPN, ESPN+, ABC and Hulu; 2024 NHL All-Star Skills February 2 on ESPN and NHL All-Star Game February 3 on ABC and ESPN+; the Stanley Cup Final returns to The Walt Disney Company to close out the season.

The NHL debuted on ESPN on Dec. 19, 1979, only about three months after the network went on air. ESPN's coverage recorded milestones both on and off the ice the first nine seasons, including being the first U.S. network to produce an NHL All-Star Game in 1986. After a four-year absence, the league returned to the network in 1992 and aired for the first time on ESPN2 the following season, days after the channel's debut. In the years that followed, the NHL played a key role in the expansion of ESPN2, leading to ESPN and ESPN2 celebrating their 1,000th NHL telecast on March 8, 1998. Over the years, ESPN introduced its innovative production elements to hockey coverage including, electronic cut-ins (1980), MaskCam (1998), SkyCam (1998) and more. The network's last TV rights deal with the league concluded in 2005. Live games and a daily studio show returned to ESPN+ in 2018.
